The Food-Cycle Collective is a network of mobile carts and shared services that recovers surplus food, redistributes resources and creates opportunities for care, exchange and community at night. Operating from the repurposed Smithfield Market, the Collective connects nearby restaurants, cafés, supermarkets and food businesses with people moving through the City at night, including residents, night workers, hospitality workers, visitors and people experiencing food insecurity.
The Food-Cycle Collective treats food as an entry point to a wider system of social care infrastructure. Instead of seeing surplus as waste and people experiencing financial insecurity simply as recipients, the Collective creates opportunities for exchange, participation and contribution across different night-time communities.
